    Ingrid Bergman protagonizou com Humphrey Bogart um dos filmes românticos mais famosos da história do cinema: Casablanca (1942), um drama sobre refugiados que acontece durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Sua interpretação de Elsa nesse filme constituiu um dos primeiros papéis que a atriz desempenhou em Hollywood, depois de ter sido descoberta no filme Intermezzo, do qual foi feita uma versão em inglês. Ingrid Bergman trabalhou para importantes diretores, como Alfred Hitchcock, Ingmar Bergman e, sobretudo, seu segundo marido, Roberto Rossellini (Stromboli, 1949). Pelo desempenho da figura de Golda Meir numa série televisiva de 1981 sobre a dirigente israelense, recebeu o Prêmio Emmy. Ao longo da sua carreira Ingrid Bergman ganhou Oscars em três ocasiões: 1944 e 1956 como atriz principal em À Meia-Luz e Anastásia, respectivamente, e em 1974 como atriz coadjuvante em Assassinato no Expresso Oriente.
